Although our school name remains St Mary’s Catholic School, we have been a fully independent Academy since 2013. As an Outstanding school, we were also appointed by the government as a National Support School in 2011, with the mandate to share our best practice in academic achievement with other schools nationwide. We are a founding partner in the Northern Lights Teaching School Alliance which brings together outstanding schools to train teachers and to develop teaching and learning across the north-east.
St Mary’s is the fastest growing school in Newcastle and one of the most over-subscribed in the north-east. Our popularity is reflected in student numbers which have risen from 840 to 1200 in just five years. Each year group at St Mary’s now has around 200 students, with 240 in the current year 7.
